Exterior Cleaning That Restores, Not Just Washes
Good exterior cleaning is about choosing the right method for the surface and leaving it ready for long-term use. RMS brings more than 11 years of exterior-cleaning experience together with around 25 years in building, brickwork and landscaping. That means we can recognise loose joints, failed pointing, damaged edges and drainage problems that a cleaning-only company may miss.
Before work starts, we inspect the material, its condition, access, nearby doors and windows, drainage and planting. Pressure, attachments and cleaning products are selected to suit the job. We do not treat every driveway, patio, wall or roof in the same way.
Our practical cleaning and restoration process
- Inspection and quotation: we identify the surface, staining, joint condition, access and the finish you want.
- Preparation: movable items are discussed, surrounding areas are protected where required and drainage routes are checked.
- Surface-appropriate cleaning: equipment, pressure and treatment are adjusted for the material rather than using one setting everywhere.
- Restoration: block paving can be re-sanded after it has dried, and suitable surfaces can be sealed when requested.
- Final check: we review the cleaned area, edges, drainage points and any repairs discussed in the quotation.
Surfaces and Services We Can Help With
Block-paving driveways
We remove built-up dirt, organic growth and loose material from block paving, paying attention to edges and drainage channels. Once the paving is properly dry, kiln-dried sand can be swept back into the joints. Sealing can be considered separately after the paving and joints have been assessed.
Patios, paths and steps
Natural stone, concrete, porcelain and paving slabs need different handling. We assess staining, algae, jointing and any loose or damaged areas before deciding the safest approach. Where practical, small associated repairs can be discussed at the same visit.
Brickwork, walls, render and fascias
Exterior walls require care around mortar joints, vents, windows and existing finishes. As experienced bricklayers and builders, RMS can identify when cleaning alone is appropriate and when pointing or repairs should be completed first. Render, fascias and other finishes are assessed individually so the method suits their condition.
Gutters and roofline cleaning
We can inspect accessible gutters, roofline areas and associated surfaces as part of a quotation. The proposed method depends on access, material, condition and safety. We explain what is suitable before work is agreed.
What Affects the Cost of Exterior Cleaning?
Quotations are based on the size and condition of the area, surface type, access, water availability, staining, joint condition and whether re-sanding, sealing or repairs are required. A heavily weathered driveway needing joint restoration is different from a routine maintenance clean, so we price the work after understanding the actual job.
- Area size, layout and number of edges or steps
- Surface material and level of contamination
- Vehicle, pedestrian and neighbouring-property access
- Drainage, runoff management and nearby planting
- Re-sanding, sealing, pointing or repair requirements

Exterior Cleaning Questions
Do you re-sand block paving after cleaning?
Yes, where re-sanding is included in the quotation. The paving needs time to dry before suitable kiln-dried sand is worked into the joints.
Can you repair damaged pointing or paving as well?
Often, yes. Our building and landscaping background allows us to assess practical repairs alongside the cleaning work. Any additional work is explained and quoted before it is carried out.
Will every mark come out?
No responsible contractor can promise that every stain will disappear. Oil, rust, paint, deep organic staining and previous sealers can behave differently. We explain realistic expectations after inspecting the surface.
Which areas do you cover?
