Why Brick Pillars Fail
Movement can result from shallow foundations, water and frost, poor bonding, corroding metalwork, tree roots, vehicle impact or gates applying forces the pier was not designed to carry. Simply replacing a few loose bricks will not solve an underlying stability problem. If the pillars will support gates, the proposed gate type, width, weight and fixing positions need to be considered before construction. Matching Existing Brickwork
Where repairs or extensions meet older masonry, an exact brick match is not always available. We compare size, colour, texture and weathering and explain the realistic options. Mortar colour and joint finish are also considered because they have a major effect on how well new work blends with an existing wall.
Repair or Complete Rebuild?
Localised repairs may be suitable when damage is limited and the foundation and main structure remain stable. A leaning pier, widespread cracking or repeated movement may require careful dismantling and rebuilding. Reusable bricks can sometimes be cleaned and incorporated where their condition allows.
